Side Quests: 52 Books and 100 Posts (Probably)

52 Books in 52 Weeks

Every year, I try to read 52 books. Even though for the last 3 years I have hit over 100 books, I still tell myself this year: 52 books.

For 2026, I am trying to read more Sci-Fi and Horror genres. I am not even going to attempt by saying “This is the year I will like High Fantasy” because that is a big ask. We will try to fit it in at least one. As for romance, I have officially burned out from it. The only genre that is consistently on my radar is still Lit. If I were to be specific: toxic and/or depressed, unreliable character-driven stories. Why? Who knows.

My Storygraph has a TBR list that I refuse to acknowledge the length. As a mood reader, the tags for my next reads are constantly changing and that’s okay.

I read a mix of physical books and on my Kindle Colorsoft because I get easily bored with just one format. As much as I would love to enjoy a full audiobook, I am a horrible listener and get easily distracted. Distraction will just lead to missing a chunk of the story that I wouldn’t even know where to restart.

So, how do I read a lot? The main sacrifice I made was not spending much time on TV shows or movies. Safe to say, I am out of the loop on most pop culture. I do have the ability to imagine everything I read vividly and I always find that a lot more stimulating than watching television. I wonder if it's because I can "edit" the scenes in my head as I read the books, so the experience is vastly more satisfying even though they are both fictional.

100 Days To Offload - 100 Posts in 1 Year

Another thing that I really want to do as one of my side quests is to write more. I recently discovered https://www.writehoney.com/, that help build a writing habit by having writing streaks. It has been fun, but I am rarely consistent and keep missing a day or two. I am trying to hit a 30 Day Streak on Writehoney starting today onwards.

Out of those streaks, they will be turned into posts for this blog. This is when my other discovery comes in: 100 Days To Offload, which I bookmarked from somewhere deep in Reddit. A reliable source. The concept seems to be simple enough which is to write 100 posts in 12 months, and that is definitely doable.

I initially wanted this blog to be a media and book blog, but that is just too narrow for what’s in my head, and I don’t think I want to do the work of having multiple blogs.

So let’s just go back to the classic theme of a personal blog and it’s about the most interesting person in the room: Me and my brain. /s
